Ver una hembra de mantis religiosa tan delgaducha en septiembre sólo significa una cosa: que ya ha realizado su ooteca, la estructura que contiene todos sus huevos, por lo tanto, ya se ha reproducido, y que solamente le queda morir a merced de otro depredador más grande que ella o por simple decaimiento, frío y degradación. Así es la vida de una de nuestras mantis de mayor tamaño: nacer en primavera y morir en otoño a la llegada del frío. Es triste, pero la naturaleza es así.
It has been quite some time since I last saw a Praying Mantis; they are present here but not at all common. The last one I saw, as best I remember, was in Croatia several years ago. As you know, the males often become dinner for the female, even as they are mating, so perhaps the population is highly skewed in favour of females by this time of year. ResponderEliminarI agree with you and also the fact that males tend to fly around more, which makes them a more exposed prey for birds and reptiles, means less males around.

ResponderEliminarI always hope to find these creatures when on holiday. We do not have them in the UK where I live. I have never yet found one so they are high on my wish list!
Hi! Thank you for your comment. Here in Spain we get several mantis species and all of them are very cool. Still you get things in the UK we don't get here and viceversa, luckily we are not very far from each other so we can enjoy both countries' nature if we get to find a cheap flight!
