Mantis religiosa. Jardín Botánico de Castilla-La Mancha. 16/09/2025. |
It has been quite some time since I last saw a Praying Mantis; they are present here but not at all common. The last one I saw, as best I remember, was in Croatia several years ago. As you know, the males often become dinner for the female, even as they are mating, so perhaps the population is highly skewed in favour of females by this time of year. Saludos cordiales desde Ontario, estimado Guillermo - David
ResponderEliminarI agree with you and also the fact that males tend to fly around more, which makes them a more exposed prey for birds and reptiles, means less males around.
EliminarHi Guillermo!
ResponderEliminarI always hope to find these creatures when on holiday. We do not have them in the UK where I live. I have never yet found one so they are high on my wish list!
Hi! Thank you for your comment. Here in Spain we get several mantis species and all of them are very cool. Still you get things in the UK we don't get here and viceversa, luckily we are not very far from each other so we can enjoy both countries' nature if we get to find a cheap flight!
EliminarSuperb. Fantastic photo. Greetings.
ResponderEliminarThank you very much, Sami! I'm glad you liked it.
EliminarYou publish an interesting image and account of the barely six month life of the Praying Mantis, and may I thank you for your recent first visit to my blog here in the UK.
ResponderEliminarKind Regards Guillermo García-Saúco Sánchez....Pete.
